Printmaking is an artistic process where an image or design is created on one medium ( through techniques like engraving and etching) and is transferred onto another surface, most often paper or fabric.

Printmaking on Styrofoam

Using styrofoam for printmaking is an inexpensive way of teaching children this art process and cultivating their creativity. Not just any styrofoam will work though, look for polystyrene foam ( the same material foam takeout containers are made out of), or foam sheets from the art store. We used this insulation foam from home depot and these foam sheets from Michaels.
